Photos, Videos & Articles About Sanctuary Cruises
& the Whales, Dolphins and other Creatures Found on Our Trips

Photographs Our naturalist Kate takes great photos on many of our cruises, then generously posts them on Shutterfly. Click here to cruise through her work to see some really stunning wildlife photography.

Videos If a picture's worth a thousand words, a video is worth ten thousand pictures.

  • Killer Whales & Elephant Seal Female at Sanctuary This shows orcas milling around our boat, trying to decide whether to go after an elephant seal. Note we never engage engines with animals so close.

  • Introduction to "Whale Attack" National Geographic's recreation of our
2004 Mother's Day cruise when orcas attacked baby gray whales. This program is shown fairly often on the nature channels.

  • Friendly Humpback Whale activity at our boat It may be hard to believe the incredible sights we see out there; they are often jaw-dropping great. By our deckhand/naturalist Kate Cummings.

  • Orcas & Humpbacks More of the spectacular animals who spend much of their time in our waters. By our deckhand/naturalist Kate Cummings.

  • Orcas & Dolphins from our first weekend back on the Monterey Bay August 2009. Senior captain Heidi Tiura took this video and she is still kicking herself for not taking any video of the humpbacks that lazily swam around our boat, as well as erasing the shot of 4 orcas, side-by-side, who swam up to, under, then beyond Sanctuary.

  • Gray Whales & Dolphins 2010 Common dolphins love to play with our boat's bow wave. They race in, zig zag back and forth ahead of us and generally have a high old time of it, all to passengers' delight.

Articles Over the years, we've had lots of articles written about our cruises and the creatures out there. Time marches on and some of their timeliness has faded, but these are worth checking out:

  • San Francisco Chronicle about our trips An unbiased article about a cruise with us from start to finish. As sometimes happens, we had no idea the reporter was on board. She was treated just like everyone else, which says a lot!

  • Senior captain Heidi Tiura's Article for the Monterey Herald Heidi sat on the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary's Advisory Council for several years. During this time, she was involved with establishing guidelines for responsible marine life viewing. Everyone has a stake in this; learn how you fit in.
